Basic discussion on building up the Women Federation 16/12/2014

Objectives-

  

1    Further strength and develop the women headed districts committees in the North

     and East among the 13 districts of National Fisheries Solidarity Movement

 
2    Build up the women headed district   
     committees being gathered the women 
      committees in the Southern districts

 3    To build up the women federation in national level being represented all districts committees within 13 district s in the North and South. 

Welcome speech and present the objective was done by the women coordinator in National Fisheries Solidarity Movement. She further mentioned that the women headed families who effected by the war now have gathered as the district committee of the women headed families building up the groups of women headed families in village level within the 5 districts in the North and East. They have built up the district committees of women headed families in a proper way. The district committee has involved finding the solutions for the problems the women face in the society. The committee regularly meets  the decision makers, service providers and officers  of the government sector to find the solutions. They have obtained some achievements on this process. The women headed families have succeeded the involvement of developing the economic background of their families. The women headed district committee has involved in different ways on women issues. 

 

The women committees are functioned not only the North but also South in this situation. We can see strong women committees in Southern areas. We hope to further strengthen women committees in the South. And hope to build up district committees being coordinated every women committee in regional level. Building district committees of the women, we will be able to empower the women by strengthening economic background of the women. 

Then, we have planned to build up women federation being participated every women district committee of the network.  That will be a Women Federation of the National Fisheries Solidarity Movement. Building women federation, we hope to highlight the issues of the women nationally and internationally to find solutions for them, the women coordinator   said. 

The session of introducing the participants was done by Mr. Jesudasan and Priyankara.  The participated Muslim and Tamil members who came from the North and East built up the close relationship with the participants from the Southern areas.  After a basic discussion, the program was started.

Then, the leaders of the district committee of women headed families presented their progress in 2014. After the presentations of the women leaders of district committeeS, a deep discussion was done over the highlighted issues according to the presentations.

The National Convener of National Fisheries Solidarity Movement opened a dialogue about the importance of the Women Federation in national level. He concerned the contribution of every district to find the solutions for the issues of the women. The leaders of women headed district committee in the South emphasized that they are able to join hands to find solutions for the issues which face the women in the North and East. The Southern participants said that they are very sensitive and concern about the issues the women face in the North and East.

 

There was a debate about the opportunities to face the all challengers in the existing political situation in the country.  All women group strongly said that they would like to go head to find solutions of the issues the women face in the existing social, economic and political situation.

Proposals of the women

·        The issues of the women should be concerned through proper awareness process in national level. There should be a wider awareness process for the women.

·        The existing district women committee should be further strengthened. Building the other women committee which did not develop properly, it should form the women federation being participated the representatives of the women committees 

·        There should be a wider understanding about the women issues as well as the experience should share with others 

·        Leadership trainings should be organized 

·        The common personnel should be selected without concerning race, nation and religious 

 

·        A women farce should be built up consisting at least 100 women leaders to involve any event in national level
